Argentine Unions Hold March Against US Intervention

Buenos Aires, January 4 (NA) -- The State Workers' Association (ATE) has called for a mobilization in the City of Buenos Aires for Monday, January 5, under the slogan "Get the US out of Latin America." According to the Argentine News Agency, the march will begin at 5:00 PM at Plaza Italy in the Palermo neighborhood and adds to the wave of condemnation following the military operation that resulted in the capture of Nicolás Maduro. From the union led by Rodolfo Aguiar, they stated that the measure is "in defense of the sovereignty and self-determination of the peoples." Aguiar was blunt in criticizing the actions of the Donald Trump administration: "They think they own the world and we have to stop them," the state leader sentenced, qualifying the intervention as a flagrant violation of international law. This call comes in a climate of growing union and social conflict in Argentina. During Saturday, various leftist organizations and social movements had already demonstrated in front of the US Embassy, warning of the consequences of a "forced regime change" by a foreign power. The City Government, for its part, has reinforced security in diplomatic areas in anticipation of new gatherings at the start of the week. The armed forces of Venezuela demanded the release of Maduro and denounced his "kidnapping".
